Redirecting Our Focus to the Risen Christ

By Andrew Williams

Luke 24:12 (NLT): “But Peter jumped up and ran to the tomb to look. Stooping, he peered in and saw the empty linen wrappings. Then he went home, wondering what had happened.”

Good morning fellow disciples.

This verse captures Peter’s immediate reaction to the astonishing news that Jesus’ tomb was empty. The women had come to the disciples with the incredible claim that Jesus had risen, but their words seemed too good—or too unbelievable—to be true. Yet, Peter’s response was not to dismiss the report but to investigate it for himself. He ran to the tomb, full of urgency and curiosity, and when he arrived, he found the linen wrappings but no body. Despite seeing evidence of something extraordinary, Peter left in a state of wonder, still trying to comprehend what had happened.

This moment marks the beginning of Peter’s personal encounter with the reality of the resurrection. His confusion would soon give way to clarity as Jesus revealed Himself to the disciples. For now, Peter’s actions show us the heart of someone earnestly seeking truth, even when it is difficult to understand. His willingness to investigate redirects our focus to the truth of the resurrection, the cornerstone of our faith.

Peter’s eagerness to run to the tomb demonstrates his longing to know the truth about Jesus. Although he was still grappling with doubt and uncertainty, he didn’t let those feelings paralyze him. Instead, he took action, seeking answers with a heart open to what God might reveal. This moment of wonder and searching highlights Peter’s growth as a disciple—he is no longer the man who denied Jesus in fear but someone willing to pursue the truth, even in the face of confusion.

As disciples, Peter’s response empowers us to bring our questions, doubts, and uncertainties to God. The resurrection calls us to investigate, to seek, and to rediscover the truth of Jesus’ victory over sin and death. Like Peter, we are invited to run toward the risen Christ, trusting that He will meet us with the clarity and assurance we need.

Are you living in the full reality of the resurrection, or are there areas of doubt and confusion holding you back? Like Peter, redirect your focus to the risen Christ. Run toward Him in faith, even if you don’t have all the answers yet. Let your heart be filled with wonder as you seek to understand the depth of His victory and love.

This week, take time to reflect on the resurrection and what it means for your life. Open your Bible and revisit the accounts of Jesus’ victory over death in the Gospels. Ask God to reveal Himself to you in fresh ways. If you’re struggling with doubt, bring it to Him in prayer, trusting that He will meet you where you are. Live each day in the hope and power of the risen Lord.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of Your resurrection, which gives me hope and new life. Like Peter, I sometimes wrestle with doubt and confusion, but I want to seek You with a heart full of faith and wonder. Today, I choose to redirect my focus to the risen Christ, running toward You with all that I am. Open my eyes to the truth of Your victory and teach me to live in the power of Your resurrection every day. Amen.
