Again the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look! The Lamb of God! ” The two disciples heard him say this and followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and noticed them following Him, He asked them, “What are you looking for? ” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are You staying? ” “Come and you’ll see,” He replied. So they went and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day. It was about 10 in the morning. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John and followed Him. He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah! ” (which means “Anointed One”), and he brought Simon to Jesus. When Jesus saw him, He said, “You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which means “Rock”).
John 1:35-42 HCSB
Good morning fellow disciples.
John the Baptist had a popular Ministry. He is the last of the prophets of the Old testament. As I think of that statement, I wonder how all the other previous prophets felt, knowing that they were pointing persons towards Jesus who would never see Him in their lifetime. But here we see John the Baptist being able to point persons to Jesus and they could just step away from him and follow Jesus.
John had prepared the way for Jesus. He had many disciples, and on this day he pointed two of them to the Lord. What a great witness John the Baptist was!
How do you feel when you have witnessed to someone about the Lord and they made the choice to follow Him? I personally know that it’s a great feeling to see someone making the best choice of their life. I can see John the Baptist smiling as Andrew and John left him to follow Jesus.
Let us be like them today! Be like John the Baptist and point others to Christ! Be like Andrew and John and follow Jesus and spend time with Him getting to know Him! Then be like Andrew and go witness to loved ones about the Lord Jesus Christ! Then, like Andrew did, bring them to meet Christ!
Prayer: Father God, my purpose in Your kingdom is to be a witness. I will tell others about what I’ve seen and heard and experienced with You. I will lead them to You and bring them to You so that they too can fellowship with You. Amen
