Redirecting Our Focus to Jesus Like Peter

February 13, 2025

By Andrew Williams

Acts 3:11-16 (NLT) “They all rushed out in amazement to Solomon’s Colonnade, where the man was holding tightly to Peter and John. Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd. ‘People of Israel,’ he said, ‘What is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power or godliness? For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of all our ancestors—who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate’s decision to release him. You rejected this holy, righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. And we are witnesses of this fact! Through faith in the name of Jesus, this man was healed—and you know how crippled he was before. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed him before your very eyes.”

Good morning fellow disciples.

In this passage, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, redirects the crowd’s amazement away from himself and John to the true source of power: Jesus Christ. After performing a miraculous healing, Peter ensures that the glory goes to God and not to man. He reminds the people that it is through faith in the name of Jesus that the crippled man was healed. Peter’s words are a beautiful example of humility and an unwavering focus on glorifying Jesus above all.

From this passage, we see Peter boldly declaring the truth of Jesus’ power and resurrection. Peter’s transformation from a man who once denied Jesus three times to one who openly proclaims His name is a testament to God’s redemptive work in our lives. As disciples of Christ, we, too, are called to redirect our focus and the focus of others to Jesus. When we are tempted to take credit for successes or when people look to us for answers, let us follow Peter’s example by pointing them to the true source of life, healing, and hope: Jesus.

Take time today to reflect on areas in your life where you need to redirect your focus to Jesus. Are you relying on your own abilities or seeking recognition for achievements? Like Peter, use every opportunity to glorify God and share your faith in Christ. Whether in a conversation, a social media post, or an act of kindness, make it your goal to lead others to see Jesus as the ultimate source of power and grace. Redirecting our focus to Jesus not only honors Him but also inspires others to trust in His name.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the example of Peter, who humbly and boldly redirected the glory to You. Forgive me for the times I have sought recognition for myself or relied on my own strength. Help me to fix my eyes on Jesus and to always point others to Him in all that I do. Empower me, Holy Spirit, to live as a true disciple, proclaiming the power of Jesus’ name and bringing glory to Your kingdom. Redirect my focus daily so that my life reflects Your greatness. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
