Understand that the Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day He will give you two days’ worth of bread. Each of you stay where you are; no one is to leave his place on the seventh day.” So the people rested on the seventh day.
Exodus 16:29-30 HCSB
Good morning fellow disciples.
When God gave the Israelites manna and quail as their food in the wilderness He gave them a stipulation. Through Moses, He told them that they could gather food six days per week but on the seventh day they were not to gather any. On the sixth day whatever they gathered would serve them for two days.
It was God’s intention for them to rest for a day. He gave them a day of Sabbath rest: rest from gathering food, rest from working, and the day where they could fellowship one with another and with God!
But even from the beginning we see people violating God’s instructions for taking time off to rest. Isn’t it the same way today, where we think that we have to work every day because we need provisions?
I used to work seven days per week and in that time I found that I did not spend time fellowshiping with others or with God. My life was lacking in rest, relaxation, and wholesome relationships with others. I made bad decisions because I did not seek advice from God or the other persons that He placed in my life to guide me.
Are you ignoring God’s Sabbath rest?
How detrimental is that to you, your family, or the persons that you work with?
Wouldn’t you like to be able to rest the way that God wants you to?
God has given you this time to rest! Accept His Sabbath rest and utilize that time to renew your relationship with Him and others so that you can be productive Kingdom disciples.
Prayer: Father God, thank You for giving us Your Sabbath rest! I accept it wholeheartedly, and I will use the time to fellowship with You and others.
I will rest from my week of work so that I can de-stress and be ready for another week where I can proclaim Your gospel in my workplace, and I can impact the lives of everyone that I come in contact with. Amen
