Two men, Eldad and Medad, had stayed behind in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but they had not gone out to the Tabernacle. Yet the Spirit rested upon them as well, so they prophesied there in the camp. Numbers 11:26 NLT
Good morning fellow disciples.
God had promised Moses that He would take some of the Holy Spirit that was on him and place it on the 70 elders. These elders were supposed to meet with God at the Tabernacle so that He could do what He had promised. However, two of them did not show up, but God kept His promise and took Holy Spirit of Moses and placed Him on them.
We know this because the two elders started prophesying in the camp when the Holy Spirit came upon them. Here is Joshua’s response to what happened:
Numbers 11:28-29 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ assistant since his youth, protested, “Moses, my master, make them stop!” But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them all!”
What an awesome response from Moses!
Moses knew what it was like to have God’s Holy Spirit in him. This was enviable to those who did not experience this in the Old Testament times. Moses wished that all of God’s people would have God’s Holy Spirit upon them.
Look at us now!
As God’s people under the new covenant, we all have Gods Holy Spirit in us. Isn’t that awesome?
Jesus also promised us that God would send His Holy Spirit as His gift to us. When we receive Him, we will be empowered to do the same exploits that Jesus did.
Have you received God’s gift?
Prayer: God, thank You for keeping your promise to Moses and the 70 elders. Thank You for keeping Your promise to us by pouring out Your Holy Spirit upon us. Your Word says that if we ask You, You will give us Your Holy Spirit.
So, Father God, we ask You now to give us Your Holy Spirit so that we can be Your effective disciples and ambassadors here on earth. Amen.
