Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Psalms 51:11 NLT
Good morning, fellow disciples.
Precious is defined as: ‘of great value, highly esteemed or cherished.’
How precious is God’s Holy Spirit to you?
In Psalm 51 we see David repenting of his sin to God. He had been confronted by Nathan the Prophet about what he had done, and he was now making his confession and repentance to God. Having done so, he asked God not to remove him from His presence or to remove God’s Holy Spirit from him.
In the Old Testament, we read this phrase many times, “The Spirit of the Lord came upon him.” Unlike in the New Testament, the Holy Spirit did not abide with man continually. There were moments when The Holy Spirit would leave them. We see this with King Saul. We see this with Samson, as many times it would say that the Spirit of the Lord came upon him.
So having sinned, David feared that God would remove David from His presence like He did with Saul, and that He would remove His Holy Spirit from him. David knew that God’s Holy Spirit was precious, of great value, highly esteemed, and to be dearly cherished. Being removed from God’s presence and losing God’s Holy Spirit was the worst thing that could happen to David.
Do you feel this way?
Is God’s Holy Spirit the most precious thing to you?
We know that God’s Holy Spirit does not remain with man because of man’s continued sinfulness. Fellow disciple, show God how precious His Holy Spirit is to you by living a life that is sin free.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, You are precious to me! I never want to lose You! I will live obedient to God’s WORD and to Father God so that I will always be united with You. Amen.
