Praying with Gratitude

By Andrew Williams

1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Good morning fellow disciples.

It is God’s will for us to be thankful in all things!

Gratitude is defined as: the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for, and to return kindness.

When we are self-centered in prayer, we tend to talk about ourselves and ask God for things. When we focus on our problems we tend to go to God in fear and begging Him for help. When we focus on who God is we tend to pray with thanksgiving and gratitude.

Focusing on ourselves and our problems in prayer lead us to pray problem solving prayers.

However, when we express gratitude in prayer, regardless of our circumstances, we shift our focus to God, which leads to deeper fellowship with God, stronger relationship with Him, and more grace flowing from God.

The more we express gratitude and thanksgiving in prayer, the more our faith grows.

Today, make a list of things that you are grateful for and pray with a heart of thankfulness.

Prayer: Father God, I am grateful for You. No matter my circumstances or needs, I will always express my gratitude to You in prayer. Thank You for showing your grace and mercy to me. May our fellowship and relationship grow as we continue our conversations in prayer. Amen.
