Joel 2:28-29 – “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”
Good morning fellow disciples.
This promise became a reality when God poured out His Spirit on the disciples of Jesus Christ at Pentecost. This wasn’t a one-time event, but God will continue to pour out His Spirit on His children who ask it of Him.
‘Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away —all who have been called by the Lord our God.” Acts of the Apostles 2:38-39
History is filled with examples of spiritual revivals, moments of intense spiritual awakening that brought about significant societal change. The Great Awakening in 18th century America, the Welsh Revival of 1904-1905, and the Azusa Street Revival of 1906 are just a few examples of how God has moved in powerful ways to renew His people and transform the world. All these revivals were preceded by faithful people who were in constant prayer.
When praying for revival we need to ask God:
- to pour out His Spirit thus igniting a fire of faith,
- for a renewed passion for God, a deeper love, and a commitment to live for Him, and
- for transformation in the hearts of believers and a spiritual awakening in communities.
When praying for revival, it is essential to not only ask for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit but also to actively seek God’s presence and make room for His Spirit to work in our lives and communities. Here are some ways to do this:
- Practice intentional prayer and meditation,
- Prioritize reading and studying Scripture,
- Cultivate a heart of worship,
- Live a life of obedience,
- Foster a spirit of unity with other believers,
- Serve others, and
- Share the Gospel.
Are you consistently praying for revival?
Let us boldly approach God in prayer, trusting that as we seek His presence and surrender to His Spirit, He will work powerfully to bring about a spiritual revival that transforms lives and communities.
Prayer: Father God, we surrender and submit to you! Pour out Your holy Spirit on us Lord! Revive us and revive Your church! Amen.
