Praying for Protection

By Andrew Williams

Psalm 91:1-2 – “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”

Good morning fellow disciples.

Throughout Scripture, we find countless examples of individuals who sought God’s protection through prayer. Daniel, facing a lion’s den, prayed for deliverance and was miraculously spared. Hezekiah, threatened by the Assyrian army, turned to God in prayer and witnessed God’s intervention. These stories remind us that God hears our prayers and acts on our behalf.

When we pray to God for protection, we need to realize who God is and that we need to put our trust in Him.

The opening lines of Psalm 91 emphasize the crucial act of “dwelling” in the “shelter of the Most High.” They paint a vivid picture of finding refuge and strength in God, our source of comfort and protection that transcends our human limitations

The Psalmist declares, “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'” This powerful statement underscores the importance of unwavering trust in God’s power to keep us safe and guide us through life’s challenges. He is our refuge, a place of safety and security, and our fortress, a stronghold that protects us from harm.

While God promises protection, it is essential to remember that our lives should reflect our trust in Him.

Psalm 91:1-2 reminds us that God is a faithful and loving God who desires to protect and guide us. By dwelling in His shelter, trusting in His power, and living a life that honors Him, we can experience the peace and security that only He can provide.

Prayer: Father God, I will dwell in Your shelter and rest in your shadow. Lord, You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. Protect me, save me, and deliver me, I pray! Amen.
