Praying for Others

By Andrew Williams

1 Timothy 2:1-2 – “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

Good morning fellow disciples.

Are you praying for others?

In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Paul urges that these various types of prayer – petitions, general prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving – be made for all people, including those in positions of authority.

1. Petitions: These are requests or supplications made to God, often for specific needs or desires. Petitions involve asking God for something, whether for oneself or for others.

2. Prayers: This refers to general communication and conversation with God. Prayers can include worship, adoration, confession, and making requests, but are not limited to any specific type of prayer.

3. Intercession: Intercession involves pleading on behalf of others, asking God to act on their behalf. It is a form of prayer where one person or group prays for the needs of another.

4. Thanksgiving: This involves expressing gratitude and appreciation to God. Thanksgiving prayers recognize God’s blessings, providence, and goodness.

Fellow disciples, our prayers will impact the lives of others. As we intercede on their behalf God will show up in their lives. He will save them, heal them, and deliver them from the enemies plans for them.

We need to be constantly praying for those in need. Remember, many of them either cannot or will not pray for themselves, so it’s our prayers that will invite God to act in their lives.

Today, I encourage you to identify specific people to pray for, and please pray for them regularly!

Prayer: Father God, I will continually make petitions, general prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving for the people in my life! Amen.
