Acts of the Apostles 13:2-3 NLT – One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.
Good morning fellow disciples.
Are you praying for missions?
The account in Acts 13:2-3 demonstrates the vital role of prayer in the work of missions and evangelism. It underscores the importance of seeking God’s guidance and empowerment through prayer as we participate in the great commission to make disciples of all nations.
Throughout the book of Acts and the missionary journeys of the apostle Paul, we see remarkable examples of how the gospel spread rapidly, even in the face of persecution and opposition. These stories inspire us to pray boldly for God to work mightily through His people to bring the good news of salvation to the ends of the earth.
We are called to lift up in prayer those who have been sent out as missionaries, evangelists, and church planters. We can pray for their protection, provision, and effectiveness in sharing the gospel. We can also pray for the growth and maturity of the churches they establish, that they would be vibrant communities of faith that transform lives.
As we pray for the spread of the gospel, we are also called to get involved in supporting missions’ efforts through our resources, our time, and our personal witness. This may involve financially supporting missionaries, volunteering with missions’ organizations, or simply being faithful to share the hope of Christ with those in our own spheres of influence.
Our prayers for missions should be rooted in a deep conviction that the gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to transform lives, communities, and even nations. As we align our hearts with God’s desire for the salvation of all people, we can trust that He will work through our prayers and our actions to bring about His purposes in the world.
Prayer: Father God, we surrender and submit to You. We seek Your guidance in preparing for and executing the missions You have for us. We will go where You send us, preach to and disciple those who you direct us to, and pray for and support others who have gone on the mission’s field. Amen.
