Pray like Gideon

Good morning fellow disciples.

Prayer is simply having a conversation with God. God sometimes appears as the Angel of the Lord to deliver His WORD to us. God’s Word is His expressed and manifested mind and will.

Sometimes we find ourselves in conversations that we are initially unaware that the Angel of the Lord is speaking to us. In Judges 6:11‭-‬18‭, ‬22‭-‬23 NLT‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Gideon was unknowingly having a conversation with God:

Then the angel of the Lord came and sat beneath the great tree at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash of the clan of Abiezer. Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”

“Sir,” Gideon replied, “if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say, ‘The Lord brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.”

Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!”

“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.”

Gideon replied, “If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the Lord speaking to me. Don’t go away until I come back and bring my offering to you.”

He answered, “I will stay here until you return.”

When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he cried out, “Oh, Sovereign Lord, I’m doomed! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!”

“It is all right,” the Lord replied. “Do not be afraid. You will not die.”


Prayer: Father God, I hear You speaking to me, telling me to go out in my own strength to do what you have commanded me to do. Like Gideon I sometimes want proof that I will be able to accomplish the task, and I keep questioning instead of accepting your Word to me.

Help me to redirect my focus off myself and the problem, to You. Be patient with me during this process. Let me see You! Let me experience You so that I can now know that because You are with me, I will not fail. Amen

  1. In Hebrews 1: we see Jesus as the ultimate revelation of God. He is siperior to prophets and angels, therefore we should remain connected to him in order for him to redirect our focus.
