Scripture: “Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command you what is fitting, yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you —being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ—” Philemon 1:8-9 NKJV
Observation : Here we see Paul following Jesus’ pattern of appealing to love, instead of ordering Philemon to obey him. Love is indeed the most excellent way. If you and your disciple are truly following Christ Jesus then you don’t need to command him to do anything, because he will do it based on his love for Christ.
We are all faced with situations where we know what is the right or the fitting thing to do, but what we actually choose to do is based on our priorities. If our priority is to live our lives in a manner that is pleasing to Christ , then we will do as he commands. His greatest commands are to: love God above all, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. If we follow this then all our decisions will be, “for loves sake”.
Application : I will walk in love and teach my disciples to do the same.
Prayer : Father God help us to walk in Your love, so that we will do the best for our brothers and sisters, amen.
