Philemon 1:14 -Consent

By Andrew Williams – June 12, 2021

Scripture : But without your consent I wanted to do nothing, that your good deed might not be by compulsion, as it were, but voluntary. Philemon 1:14 NKJV

Observation : Paul respects his disciple Philemon and he could command Philemon to do what is expected of him, but out of respect for Philemon he is asking Philemon to do what’s right. As leaders we should appeal to our disciples to do what is right based on our shared love instead of ordering them to do what is right.

Application : I will seek to lead others based on love instead of compelling them.

Prayer : Father God, help me to walk in love. Help me to seek the consent of others instead of ordering them to do the task at hand.

  1. Amen. Even as parents I think we need to apply the disciple. Too often we command our children to do things without asking first how they feel about it.
