Persecuted for the Word- Barnabas’ Faithfulness Amidst Opposition

June 13, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.” – Acts 13:50 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 13:50 reveals the harsh reality of opposition that Paul and Barnabas faced during their missionary journeys. Despite the initial success in Pisidian Antioch, Jewish leaders stirred up influential people in the city against them, resulting in persecution and expulsion from the region. This verse underscores the fact that following Christ often comes with a cost and that even faithful service can be met with hostility.

As a disciple, you may face opposition, rejection, or even persecution for your faith. Barnabas’ example reminds you that you are not alone and that even the most dedicated servants of God can experience adversity. You are empowered to remain steadfast in your commitment to Christ, to trust in His protection, and to find strength in the knowledge that your suffering is not in vain.

This week, prepare yourself for the possibility of facing opposition for your faith. Strengthen your relationship with God through prayer, study of His Word, and fellowship with other believers. When you encounter resistance, remember that you are not alone and that God will give you the strength to persevere. Respond with grace and truth, trusting that He will work all things together for your good and for His glory.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the strength and courage to remain faithful to you, even when faced with opposition or persecution. Help me to trust in your protection and to find peace in your presence. May my life be a testimony to your love, your grace, and your unwavering power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
