My Identity in Christ- A Living Stone: Our Role in God’s Spiritual House

By Andrew Williams

1 Peter 2:5 (NLT): “And you are living stones, and as such you are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

Good morning fellow disciples.

Let us turn our hearts and minds to a passage that speaks of our vital role in the ongoing work of God – the building of His spiritual house.

This isn’t a passive role; we are not mere onlookers or spectators in God’s grand design. We are active participants, living stones, carefully chosen and precisely placed to form a magnificent spiritual edifice. The image of a “spiritual house” speaks to the unity and interconnectedness of God’s people, the body of Christ. We are not isolated individuals; we are integral parts of a larger structure, each contributing to the overall strength and beauty of the whole.

Think about your role as a living stone in this spiritual house. What are your unique gifts and talents? How can you contribute to the strength and beauty of the body of Christ? Are you a strong foundation, providing stability and support? Are you a sturdy wall, offering protection and shelter? Are you a vibrant window, letting the light of Christ shine through? Each of us has a unique role to play, a specific contribution to make.

This understanding empowers us to live with purpose, passion, and unwavering commitment. Knowing we are essential parts of God’s spiritual house, we are not intimidated by the challenges of life. We are not afraid to step into our roles, to use our gifts and talents for the glory of God, and to contribute to the growth and flourishing of His kingdom.

Our task, then, is to actively embrace our role as living stones, to discover and develop our unique gifts, and to contribute to the building up of God’s spiritual house. Today, I challenge you to reflect on your own unique contributions. Pray for guidance and discernment, asking God to reveal how you can best use your gifts and talents to serve Him and His people. Seek out opportunities to connect with others in the body of Christ, building relationships, offering support, and working together to advance His kingdom.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the privilege of being living stones in Your spiritual house. Help us to discover and develop our unique gifts and talents, and to use them to build up Your kingdom. Empower us to connect with others in the body of Christ, to support one another, and to work together in unity to advance Your purposes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
