By Andrew Williams
For they loved praise from men more than praise from God.
John 12:43 HCSB
Good morning fellow disciples.
Praise is defined as: the expression of respect and gratitude as an act of worship; and to glorify (a god or saint) especially by the attribution of perfections.
There’s nothing wrong with getting praises from other persons. There’s nothing wrong in delighting in praises. There’s nothing wrong with loving praise.
There is a concern, however, about who is the object of your praise. When you receive praise who do you accept it from? When you receive praise, whose praise do you love the most?
If there are two objects of praise, one person being God Almighty and the other being mankind, who would you prefer to be praising you?
In this passage we see the Pharisees loving the praise of man more than the praise of God. How could they love the praise of man more, when they were supposed to be God’s emissaries?
How about you my fellow disciple: Do you love the praises of man more than the praise of God?
Prayer: Lord God, I love when You praise me. Amen.
