Listen to God’s Voice

By Andrew Williams

Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him. Deuteronomy‬ ‭13:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Good morning fellow disciples.

The entire chapter of Deuteronomy 13 is a warning against idol worship. In it Moses gives many scenarios about how persons can be led into worshipping idols.

In verse four the people are reminded to serve only the Lord God and to fear him alone. They are told to obey his commands, to listen to his voice, and to cling to him.

We can hear God’s voice through the Holy Scriptures, His Holy Spirit, sermons, dreams, visions, messages from other disciples, and God’s audible voice.

Sometimes we may be unsure that the voice we hear is God’s. But if you read Deuteronomy 13 you will see that if the voice you hear leads you to disobey God or start serving idols, then that is not God’s voice.

Examine the revelations and messages that you have received personally or from messengers. If you obey them, will you be wholeheartedly serving God, or will you stray away from God?

Choose the voice that leads you to obey God.

THAT’S THE VOICE OF THE LORD!

Prayer: Father God, I live to obey You. I will listen to Your voice! I will serve You and reverentially fear You. I will obey Your commands and I will cling to You.

I will never follow those who claim to be speaking on your behalf and are encouraging me to disobey you and to serve idols. Help me to recognize and avoid these false disciples. Amen.
