Opening Prayer
Lord, help us to move beyond superficial connections and embrace the beautiful, messy, and life-changing work of doing life with others.
Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Proverbs 27:17
“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”
True discipleship happens up close. While Sunday services and small groups are wonderful, the deepest transformation often occurs in the unstructured, everyday moments of life. This is the principle of “life-on-life” discipleship—intentionally inviting people into the normal rhythms of your journey.
“Iron sharpening iron” is an active, hands-on process. It happens when a younger believer watches you navigate a conflict with your spouse. It happens when you talk through a difficult decision while driving in the car together. It happens when someone sees you open your Bible in the morning or hears you pray for a stranger. It’s in these moments that the abstract principles of faith become concrete and imitable.
Inviting others into your journey requires vulnerability and intentionality. It means being willing to let people see your imperfections and how you depend on God’s grace. It means looking for opportunities to include others in what you’re already doing. This is how Jesus discipled His followers. He didn’t just meet them in a classroom once a week; they did life together.
Disciples’ Life Tip: Who is one person you could be more intentional with? This week, invite them to do something with you that you would already be doing—grocery shopping, going for a walk, working on a project at your house. Use the shared time to have a meaningful conversation.
Closing Prayer: Father, give us the courage to be vulnerable and the intentionality to invite others into our lives. May our homes, our cars, and our daily routines become places of discipleship. Amen.
