Lessons from Jesus’ Conversation with the Fig Tree Part 1

By Andrew Williams – July 17, 2022

In the morning, when they were passing along, they noticed that the fig tree was withered [completely] away to its roots.
Mark 11:20 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

Our words are powerful!

Jesus was sent by God, anointed and filled with God’s Holy Spirit and, walking in God’s authority. When He spoke, His words had the power to create or destroy.

In this verse we see the effects of Jesus’ spoken word. The effects of Jesus’ curse: the fig tree was withered completely away to its roots!

We see that Jesus did not routinely go around pronouncing curses. He was careful to do and say only what His Father wanted.
On another occasion He said:
“I speak what I have seen in the presence of the Father; therefore, you do what you have heard from your father.” John 8:38 HCSB

Are you a disciple of Jesus Christ?

Do you speak what you have seen in God’s Presence? Or, do you say things of your own volition that are curses on yourself or others?

Be careful!

Your words are powerful!

Think before you speak!

Prayer: Father God, today I will begin the process of examining the effects of my spoken word. Help me to see the outcomes of both the words of blessings and curses that I have spoken.

Help me to speak only what You want me to speak. I will stay in your Presence and then speak only what You allow. Amen

  1. Such deep reflection!
In the book of James we are told that the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things. Behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth.
May God help us to be quick to listen and slow to speak.
