“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.” (Romans 8:16)
Good morning fellow disciples.
We tend to think of an heir as a person legally entitled to the property or rank of another on that person’s death. We love this definition because it means that we are entitled to an inheritance.
Joint heirs are individuals who inherit or have a legal claim to the same estate or property where multiple individuals are designated to inherit or share in the distribution of assets.
As sons of God, we are joint heirs with Christ. But what are we heirs to?
‘And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.’ Romans 8:17
As children of God, we are not only cherished children but also heirs to the kingdom of God. Through our co-inheritance with Christ, we have access to the fullness of God’s blessings and promises, and we share in God’s glory.
But an heir is also a person who inherits and continues the work of a predecessor.
Are you continuing the work of the Lord Jesus Christ?
If you are, you will share in His glory, suffering, power, and authority.
Embrace your inheritance as a joint heir with Christ and continue doing His work!
Prayer: Lord God, thank You for making me a joint heir with Christ! Amen.
