Jesus’ Conversation With A Tree Part 1

By Andrew Williams – July 13, 2022

And seeing in the distance a fig tree [covered] with leaves, He went to see if He could find any [fruit] on it [for in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves]. But when He came up to it, He found nothing but leaves, for the fig season had not yet come. And He said to it, No one ever again shall eat fruit from you. And His disciples were listening [to what He said].
Mark 11:13‭-‬14 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

Body language is defined as “the conscious and unconscious movements and postures by which attitudes and feelings are communicated.”

In this passage we see a fig tree speaking to Jesus through its body language. It was saying to Jesus: “hey, I’m leafy! I should have fruit hidden among my leaves. Come and check me out!”

Jesus “heard” the fig tree.

“And seeing in the distance a fig tree [covered] with leaves, He went to see if He could find any [fruit] on it [for in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves]. But when He came up to it, He found nothing but leaves, for the fig season had not yet come. “

Have persons ever come up to you with great expectations even though they haven’t seen you or heard you speak before? In their first encounter with you they notice your body language, and they can then approach you confidently.

On many occasions strangers have come up to me and asked if the could talk to me. They then proceed to share intimate details of their lives, ask me to pray for them , and/or just thank me for listening and then leave.

At times I ask them why they chose to talk to me. Their answer is usually something like this: “you look trustworthy, you look like a Christian, or I saw how you interacted with others and I knew you would listen to me.”

My question to you today is, “What is your body language saying to those who are observing you?”

Today we see that the fig tree’s body language tricked Jesus. Jesus did not find what He expected.

Jesus sees you! He sees you from a distance.

Will He be disappointed when He comes face to face with you?
