Scripture : Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” John 15:13-15, KJV
Insight : In a world riddled with selfishness it seems a difficult task to find a true friend. Many of us have had good and bad experiences with friendship. We know that even the best of friends may end up hurting us one day. Jesus in this passage speaks of His sacrifice on Calvary’s cross for our sins and tells us that no greater love has a man than this. He goes on to say after this sacrifice IF we accept this token we are not servants but friends.
Jesus has made the ultimate sacrifice to prove His worth as a friend who is worth keeping. Will you accept Jesus’ friendship today?
Prayer : Almighty God as I struggle in a world riddled with the sinful nature of men, I need a true friend. Help me to accept this invitation from Your Son that I may experience the benefits of the greatest love and friendship ever known. Amen.
