Jealous Praise

By Andrew Williams

I am Yahweh, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another or My praise to idols.
Isaiah 42:8 HCSB
Jealous Praise

Good morning fellow disciples.

Praise is defined as: the expression of respect and gratitude as an act of worship; and to glorify (a god or saint) especially by the attribution of perfections.

Jealous is defined as: fiercely protective of one’s rights or possessions.

Our God is a jealous God. He is fiercely protective of His glory and His praise. He does not share it with anyone! He does not give it to anyone! And, if we try to give the praise that He deserves to others, He is jealous of it.

God makes it clear when He speaks: “I am Yahweh, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another or My praise to idols.”

Why is God so fiercely protective of the praise and glory that should be given to Him alone? The answer is within the question! It is for Him alone!

Prayer: Father God, we know that You are a jealous God. After all, You made the heavens and the Earth. Everything within them belongs to You, and everything within them by right should be praising You and glorifying You. No one else is worthy of the glory and praise that is ascribed to You.

For where we have given Your praise to others, we confess this as sin, and we repent. Forgive us Lord! From this moment onward we will not give Your Glory or praise to anyone or anything else. Amen
