Matthew 16:18 ‘Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.’
Good morning fellow disciples.
This is the first time that Jesus mentioned his Ecclesia. His statement is that he will build His Ecclesia/His church and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
Ecclesia (or ekklesia) comes from the Greek word meaning “assembly” or “called-out assembly.” In the Bible, it’s primarily used to refer to the congregation of believers in Jesus Christ.
Jesus’ Ecclesia or Church are believers who are called out from the world into a special relationship with God. It can refer to the local gathering of believers in a particular place or the entire body of Christians on earth.
The purpose of Jesus’ Ecclesia is for worship, fellowship, instruction and carrying out the Great Commission.
Jesus is still building His church by adding believers every day.
Are you a part of His church? Are you worshipping with other believers, fellowshipping with them, receiving instruction, and going out into the world to make disciples?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, the Church is Yours. You are the builder. You are the head. By Your authority and power, nothing will conquer it.
I am happy to be a part of Your Church. Let Your purpose be fulfilled in me and every other member of Your Ecclesia, I pray. Amen.
