Scripture : How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? Psalm 13:13 KJV
Many of us as Christians often find ourselves like King David in this passage asking our God : ‘how long’? It seems our situations are getting worse and God seems further away than ever and we cry – how long. We know God is faithful, we know He is timely, we know the promises but like King David who has seen God come through time and again we still ask, ‘how long’?
Today may seem like the millionth day you battle with this temptation, the umpteenth time you are praying for healing and deliverance and yet your eyes have beheld no change and the inevitable question , ‘God how long’? This scripture shows us this morning that whether we are seasoned Christians, like King David a man after God’s own heart, a man who had experience with God coming through and doing what He promised. Or whether we are new to the fold, fresh out of sin, bright eyed and ready to take on Christendom, or even as a sinner trying to find that light to follow to salvation, to escape what is sure death and destruction the question of ‘how long’ can become appropriate to us and we cry out seeking answers from a Sovereign God. How long?
The scripture does not tell us whether David got an answer or not, but as you read on you will see his tone changing. What is David doing as he asks how long? He is still praying. He is still believing. He is still praising and he remembers the times when God did deliver and he takes heart in that. Today I want to encourage us that no matter where you are in ‘your how long situation’, you should follow David’s approach. Keep on keeping on!
The bible says they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. It may be difficult but it is necessary. After all faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Faith is easy when times are great. It is when the things are unseen we become weary. But that is a moment ripe for faith to be put into action. So no matter your ‘how long situation’ , trust in God and He will come through. God here I am in my ‘how long situation’, Lord teach me how to wait. Help me like David to continue to pray and to trust, and to praise and to remember your faithfulness in times past. Help me to not only endure my how long but to blossom in it.
