They remained standing in place for three hours while the Book of the Law of the Lord their God was read aloud to them. Then for three more hours they confessed their sins and worshiped the Lord their God.
Nehemiah 9:3 NLT
Good morning fellow disciples.
Confess: to unburden one’s sins or the state of one’s conscience to God or to a priest.
Is the Bible just another storybook to you?
Do you just read it, enjoy the information, and then discard it like an old newspaper?
Or, does the written Word or God deeply impact your life?
When you hear God’s Word, does it convict your conscience?
How do you respond to God’s Holy Word? Do you just ignore it, acknowledge it, or do you fall on your knees because your sins become exposed?
In this verse we see that the Israelites became aware of their sins, acknowledged them, and then spent an equal amount of time confessing their sins to God. After confession came wholehearted worship of God.
Shouldn’t we also do the same?
Let us read God’s Word aloud, become convicted by it, unburden our sins and the state of our conscience to God, and then worship Him with all our hearts.
Prayer: Word of God, convict us and spark confession in our hearts. Amen.
