The Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt. Live in the land that I tell you about; stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham. I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky, I will give your offspring all these lands, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring, because Abraham listened to My voice and kept My mandate, My commands, My statutes, and My instructions.”
Genesis 26:2-5 HCSB
Good morning fellow disciples.
God instructed Isaac to stay in the country. If Isaac obeyed then God would give the land to his descendants and fulfill the promise that God made to his father Abraham. God would do this for Isaac because his father kept God’s mandate, God’s commands, God’s statutes, and God’s instructions.
Are you willing to do the simple thing that God is asking you to do? Isaac did what God said to do.
Sometimes the blessing that we receive is not because of our actions, but because of our parents or someone else in our lineage. It is because of their love for God and their faithfulness to Him that we receive the blessings we currently have.
As parents who love their children, it is up to us to live our lives following God’s instructions so that they and their kids will be blessed by God. Are you being obedient to the simple thing that God has asked you to do?
Neither Abraham nor Isaac inherited the land that God had promised to them, but their obedience to God set the foundation for their descendants to become owners of the land.
Who will you be a blessing to by being obedient to God’s instructions?
Who will you pave the way for to come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior by obeying God’s instruction to preach the gospel?
As you look back in your family or community, whose faithfulness to God has caused you to hear the gospel so that you can become a member of the family of God?
Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your simple instructions to us. Some of us come from a long line of persons who know You, and we are living the blessed life because of them. Some of us may be the first person in our families to accept You as Lord and savior.
In either case, we are grateful for who You are in our lives. You are our God, our provider, our source, and our Father. We pledge to obey Your instructions so that others will have the opportunity to become Your children also. Amen.
I join with the writer who said “May all who come behind us find us fairhful”
Lord helpn us to be a blessing to someone today.
