Give Thanks for Your Siblings

By Andrew Williams

But when she could no longer hide him, she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile River. The baby’s sister then stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. Soon Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her. Then the baby’s sister approached the princess. “Should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” she asked. “Yes, do!” the princess replied. So the girl went and called the baby’s mother.

Good morning fellow disciples.

In the story of the life of Moses we see his older sister playing a protective and caring role at the beginning. We know that Moses grew up with the rest of his family for a short period of time before he was sent to live with Pharaoh’s daughter.

Later on in life, Moses was reunited with his brother Aaron and his sister Miriam. Sometimes they worked well together to lead the children of Israel, and at other times they were at odds with each other.

This is how it is among siblings. Sometimes we support each other and sometimes we don’t. However, there is always love shared among the siblings. The love and cooperation becomes even better when all the siblings are wholeheartedly serving God.

Do you have siblings?

Give thanks for them!

Prayer: Father God I want to thank You for my siblings. We don’t always see eye to eye on every matter but I’m grateful for their input and for the way they have helped to shape my life. I love them Lord, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that they love me.

I am so thankful that they have always looked out for me and will always look out for me. I am thankful that they are still alive God, and even though we are at varying stages of our submission and surrender to You, I know that You are working in all our lives.

I pray that You will bless, guide, and protect them. I ask You to give them life changing encounters with You! Draw them closer to You, and use them mightily for Your kingdom I pray, Amen.
