“I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare… But you know Timothy’s proven worth, how as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel. I hope therefore to send him just as soon as I see how it will go with me,” – Philippians 2:19-23 (ESV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Philippians 2:19-23 provides a glowing endorsement of Timothy’s character and his value to Paul’s ministry. Writing from prison, Paul expresses his desire to send Timothy to Philippi, stating, “I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare.” He also highlights Timothy’s “proven worth,” noting that “as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel.” This passage underscores the importance of genuine care, selfless service, and a track record of faithfulness in effective leadership.
As a disciple, you are called to serve others with genuine love and compassion. Timothy’s example reminds you that your actions should be motivated by a sincere desire to see others thrive, both spiritually and practically. Strive to be known for your proven character, your unwavering commitment to the Gospel, and your genuine concern for the well-being of those you serve.
This week, reflect on your motivations for serving others. Are you driven by a genuine love for God and for people, or are you seeking personal recognition or gain? Identify one way you can demonstrate greater care and compassion in your interactions with others.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill me with your love, your grace, and your compassion. Help me to serve others with a genuine desire to see them thrive, both spiritually and practically. May my life be a testament to your love and may I lead others to discover the joy of knowing you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
