Scripture : Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ ” I Samuel 15:3 NKJV
Observation : God instructed Samuel to tell King Saul to commit genocide. Not only that but to also kill every animal of value in these people’s possessions.
Is genocide acceptable? This is an important question but as we read the entire chapter we see something that is more important. When we read the old testament we see a recurring theme of God using one set of people to meet out punishment to another sinful people. In this passage King Saul and Israel were used as God’s instruments to punish the Amalekites.
The rest of the passage showed the disobedience of king Saul and how he lost the kingdom because of his disobedience to God. When God gives us a command we must obey in order for His will to be fulfilled.
We should obey God in all things.
Application : God knows best! I will obey Him no matter how weird or unethical/politically incorrect His instructions are.
Prayer : LORD GOD, no matter how harsh a command You give, I will obey. You know best LORD and I am your humble servant. Amen.
Funny how i spoke about this same chapter this evening and come to read about it this night, your words say obedient is better than sacrifice. Thank you Jesus for your word. Thanks Dr. Williams.
I pray for the courage to obey God’s instructions especially when it is not the norm…🙏
Amen
