So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
Genesis 3:6 NKJV
Fellowship is defined as: “friendly relationship or companionship between persons who belong to the same group and are united by common interests.”
The Apostle James describes exactly what happened to Adam and Eve when they started to think about what the serpent said to them:
“But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.” James 1:14-15 HCSB
Look: “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes,”
When you take your focus off God and His way of life, your focus goes to where it should not be. This places you in the position of desiring the things that are not of God. This is the first step on the way to missing the mark (that is, to sin).
Desire: “and a tree desirable to make one wise,”
Eve looked and started desiring something that she knew she shouldn’t. She began to be enticed by her own evil desires to become “wise like God”.
Act Sinfully: “she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.”
Having conceived this evil desire she then acted on it and sin was born. Literally this was the birth of sin in mankind. Not only did she sin, but the man who was with her sinned also.
So we see that our fellowship with God was compromised by a look, an ungodly desire and a sinful act. Our lives will be determined by who we believe, what we focus on and the actions we take. In order for us to get back into fellowship with God we need to Redirect our Focus to God and His ways.
Prayer: Father God I repent of looking at and desiring things that You have forbidden. I repent from doing my sinful acts. Help me now to redirect my focus to looking at and desiring You and Your things. Help me from now on to act in Godly ways, amen.
