Finding Delight in God’s Law

” But their delight is in the law of the Lord, and they meditate on his law day and night.” (Psalm 1:2, NLT)

By Andrew Williams

Good morning fellow disciples.

Today we delve deeper into the first Psalm, a psalm that speaks of true joy and fulfilment.

This verse stands in stark contrast to the previous one, highlighting the path of those who find true happiness. While the wicked find their pleasure in worldly counsel and sinful pursuits, those blessed by God find their delight in His Word.

This “law of the Lord” is not just a set of rules, but a reflection of God’s character, His love, and His wisdom.  It’s a map for life, a guide to navigating the complexities of existence.  To delight in this law is to find joy in understanding God’s heart, His desires for us, and His plan for our lives.

The Psalmist emphasizes the importance of meditation, of taking time to ponder and reflect on God’s Word.  It’s not enough to simply read it; we must allow it to sink deep into our hearts and minds, shaping our thoughts and actions.

This verse empowers us with the knowledge that true joy is found in God’s Word. It’s not a fleeting pleasure, but a deep and abiding satisfaction that comes from knowing and following His will.  It’s a joy that sustains us through life’s challenges and gives us hope for the future.

Today, I invite you to make a commitment to spend time meditating on God’s Word

  1. Find a quiet place, open your Bible, and let the words wash over you.
  2. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart and guide your thoughts.

Prayer: Father God, we thank You for Your Word, a treasure trove of wisdom and truth.  Help us to find delight in Your law and to meditate on it day and night.  Open our hearts to understand Your will and to find joy in following Your path. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
