False Accusations, Unwavering Faith

March 26, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“So they secretly persuaded some men to lie and say, “We heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.” This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of the law, and they came up and seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin.” – Acts 6:11-12 (NLT)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 6:11-12 reveals the escalation of the opposition against Stephen. Unable to refute his wisdom and the power of the Spirit in him, his adversaries resorted to deceitful tactics. They “secretly persuaded some men to lie,” fabricating accusations of blasphemy against Moses and God. This act of malicious intent ignited the emotions of the people, the elders, and the teachers of the law, leading to Stephen’s arrest and appearance before the Sanhedrin. This passage demonstrates how those who oppose the truth will often resort to manipulation, falsehood, and stirring up public sentiment to silence those who stand for righteousness.

As a follower of Christ, you too may face false accusations, misunderstandings, and even outright lies. Like Stephen, you may be targeted for your faith and your commitment to living a life that honors God. In such times, remember that your identity is not defined by the opinions or actions of others, but by your relationship with Christ. Do not be discouraged or paralyzed by fear. Instead, draw strength from knowing that God is with you, and He will vindicate you in His perfect timing. You are empowered to remain steadfast in your faith, even when faced with unjust treatment.

This week, reflect on how you respond when faced with false accusations or misunderstandings. Do you become defensive, retaliatory, or consumed by anger? Instead, choose to respond with grace, truth, and prayer. Ask God to give you wisdom in how to address the situation and to protect your heart from bitterness. Focus on living a life that is above reproach, knowing that your actions speak louder than words. Take time redirecting my/our focus from the lies being told about you to the truth of God’s unwavering love.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know that following You may bring opposition and false accusations. Give me the strength and courage to stand firm in my faith, even when faced with unjust treatment. Help me to respond with grace, truth, and prayer, trusting in Your vindication. Protect my heart from bitterness and help me to forgive those who speak against me. Thank You that my worth is found in You and that You are my defender. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
