Empowered by the Holy Spirit to Boldly Proclaim

February 9, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, ‘Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this. These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that. No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel: “In the last days,” God says, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women alike—and they will prophesy.”’” – Acts 2:14-18 (NLT)

Good morning fellow disciples.

This passage marks a turning point in Peter’s story and in the history of the early church. The same Peter who had once denied Jesus now boldly stands before a large crowd to proclaim the truth of the gospel. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter explains that the miraculous events of Pentecost were a fulfillment of prophecy—God pouring out His Spirit on all people. The Spirit empowered Peter to step out in courage and clarity, proclaiming the message of salvation to the world. This moment reminds us that through the Holy Spirit, even the most hesitant or broken disciple can be transformed into a bold and effective witness for Christ.

Peter’s transformation from a fearful follower to a bold preacher is a testimony to the power of the Holy Spirit. If you’ve ever felt inadequate, unworthy, or afraid to share your faith, Peter’s story reminds you that it’s not about your strength, but the Spirit working through you. When we redirect our focus from our own limitations to the limitless power of God’s Spirit, we can step forward in boldness, knowing that He equips us for His purpose.

Take a moment today to reflect: Where is the Holy Spirit asking you to step forward in boldness? Perhaps it’s sharing your faith with a friend, offering encouragement to someone in need, or standing firm in your convictions. Redirect your focus from fear or self-doubt to the Spirit’s power within you. Pray for courage and step out in obedience, trusting that the same Spirit who empowered Peter is empowering you today.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who empowers me to live boldly for You. Like Peter, I sometimes feel afraid or inadequate, but I know that Your Spirit gives me the strength and courage I need. Today, I redirect my focus to the power of Your Spirit working through me. Help me to step forward in obedience, proclaiming Your truth with boldness and love. Use me to fulfill Your purposes in the world. In Your mighty name, Amen.
