Decimated

By Andrew Williams – August 26, 2021

“If thieves had come to you, If robbers by night— Oh, how you will be cut off!— Would they not have stolen till they had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to you, Would they not have left some gleanings? “Oh, how Esau shall be searched out! How his hidden treasures shall be sought after! Obadiah 1:5-6 NKJV

Good morning fellow disciples.

I don’t like where this is going. I really don’t like where this is going. For God to be pronouncing what is starting to look like total destruction on Edom they must have really been doing things against God’s will for a while. We know that God is merciful, kind, patient, and that He holds back judgement as much as is possible. So to hear Him say that He is going to decimate Edom, I’m starting to get scared.

As we continue to study the book of Obadiah we will see other reasons why they are being punished. However, today I want to ask a question of us all. Am I, are we in Edom’s position where we deserve harsh judgement from God?

Obadiah 1:5-6 is worded in such a way that we realize that when this revelation is fulfilled, Edom is going to be Decimated! Nothing will be left. I wouldn’t want that for myself or my worst enemy. God ! Father God ! Do you have to punish them that much !?

I don’t even know these people and I’m here about to bawl for them! I know they deserve their punishment, but it is hard to accept.

Prayer : Father God I know that You are justified in Your judgement but I can’t help but to feel for those who are lost and who are about to be punished. God, just from this example in Your Word I am being overwhelmed with emotions.

God I ask You to help us as a people to be loving and compassionate to our neighbors. We know there is a better way of life with You God. Help us as Your disciples to seek out those who are far from You, so that we can disciple them into Your kingdom so that they may avoid the coming judgement.

Instill in us the overwhelming desire to seek and save the lost, and teach us how to keep them focused on living for You, I pray. Amen.
