Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 2: The Sovereignty of the Call
Week 7: The Encounter (The Invitation)
Anchor Scripture: “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.” — Isaiah 6:1 (NKJV)
The Teaching
For some, the prophetic call comes as a whisper or a “bubbling” (Nabi). But for others, the sovereign initiation occurs through a Visionary Encounter. This is when God pulls back the curtain of the natural world and allows the prophet to see the spiritual government that rules over the earth.
Isaiah’s visionary encounter happened during a national crisis—the death of a king. When the earthly throne was vacated, God opened Isaiah’s eyes to see the Eternal Throne. This vision was not for Isaiah’s entertainment; it was his commission. A visionary encounter bypasses the human intellect and sears a divine image into the spirit of the prophet. Once you have “seen the Lord,” you can never again be satisfied with the opinions of men.
Sovereign visions are God’s way of recalibrating your perspective. He shows you His holiness so that you can see your own “unclean lips.” He shows you His highness so that you aren’t intimidated by earthly power. These encounters are “sovereign” because you cannot manufacture them. You cannot “work” for an open vision; you can only be positioned to receive it when God decides the time is right to reveal His glory to His messenger.
Prophetic Insight
A visionary encounter is meant to be a permanent “anchor” for your soul. In the years of persecution or silence that often follow a prophetic call, the prophet looks back at what they saw to find the strength to keep going. If you have had a dream or a vision that felt “more real than real,” do not let time or the skepticism of others talk you out of it. That vision was the sovereign “seal” on your office. It was God’s way of saying, “I have shown you the truth; now go and speak it.”
The Activation
Take 15 minutes today to sit in a quiet place. Close your eyes and ask the Holy Spirit to “sanctify your imagination.” Do not try to “think up” a vision. Instead, ask the Lord: “Is there a picture or an image You want to seat in my spirit today?” If an image appears—even a simple one—write it down and ask for the meaning.
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You that You are the God who reveals. I thank You for the moments You pull back the veil and allow me to see Your glory. I ask for a visionary encounter that would anchor my soul in Your holiness. Open the eyes of my heart today. Let me see the Throne that is above every earthly throne, so that I may walk in Your authority and speak Your truth without fear. Amen.
