Conversations with Jesus at the Mount of Olives – Part 1

By Andrew Williams – September 28, 2022

And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. And Jesus said to them, You will all fall away this night [that is, you will be caused to stumble and will begin to distrust and desert Me], for it stands written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.
Mark 14:26‭-‬27 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

We have a saying that goes like this “when it rains it pours”.

Jesus just keeps on giving the disciples more and more bad news. First it was that one of them would betray Him, then He says that He is going to die, and now He is telling them that they would all desert Him!

What a night of conversations!

Nobody likes bad news, but when it keeps on getting worse and worse how do you cope with it?

The disciples now found themselves in the position where not only Judas was a bad disciple but now all of them are placed in that category.

Jesus said: “you will be caused to stumble and will begin to distrust and desert Me”.

In one night all His disciples would desert Him! What a thing to say!

Jesus wasn’t trying to be harsh with them. He was just speaking about what was prophesied about Him and them in Scripture: “for it stands written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered. [Zech. 13:7.]”

Once again we see that Jesus depended on the written word of God in His ministry.

Have you ever distrusted God or deserted Him?

Are you currently distrusting God, and have you deserted Him?

Did you desert Him after you were separated from your “church family”

If you find yourself away from God today it’s not too late to return to His loving arms.

Prayer: Father God, for those who are away from You I pray that You will place persons in their path who can lead them back to You. I ask You Holy Spirit to speak to them in this their time of need and show them how to get back into full fellowship with God Almighty. Amen
