Conversations with Jesus at His Last Meal – Part 4

By Andrew Williams – September 24, 2022

For the Son of Man is going as it stands written concerning Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good (profitable and wholesome) for that man if he had never been born. [Ps. 41:9.] Mark 14:21 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

Jesus knew that He would die. His death was prophesied in scripture and He had no problem with the type of death that He would experience.

Jesus had just shocked His disciples by telling them that one of them would betray Him {and hand Him over to sinners and religious people to be crucified}.

He now speaks of how awful it will be for His betrayer.

1. “but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed!”

Woe is defined as: a condition of deep suffering from misfortune, affliction, or grief, or ruinous trouble.

This is what Jesus’ betrayer would face. It would be so bad that Jesus went on to say:

2. “It would have been good (profitable and wholesome) for that man if he had never been born.”

Oh my God!

Oh my God!

The disciples were sad and hurt at first. Now they must feel distressed! I know that I’m at a loss for words. If Jesus had to be betrayed, why was the punishment so harsh?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, may I never fall under judgement like Your betrayer did. Amen.
