Conversations at Gethsemane – Part 6

And He came back and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, Simon, are you asleep? Have you not the strength to keep awake and watch [with Me for] one hour? Mark 14:37 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

How many times have you fallen asleep in your family prayer meeting? How many times have you fallen asleep at church while others are praying?

Even though Jesus gave His disciples the instruction to watch while He prayed, they still could not stay awake. Was this because of the exhausting days that they had prior to this? Was it because their habit was to fall asleep while Jesus was praying on His own? Could they not stay awake because of the intensity of the spiritual warfare?

Many of us are used to be on the receiving end of prayers. We love to be prayed for and we love to be supported. However, when we are asked to support others while they pray, we either get distracted or become exhausted during this time. We are not used to being supportive persons.

Do you have the strength to keep awake for just one hour while somebody else is praying?

Can you support them while they pray, without losing focus?

Prayer: Father God, help us to stay awake and alert as we pray with or support others as they pray. Amen.
