Conversations Around the Fire at the High Priest’s House Part 2

By Andrew Williams

But he denied it falsely and disowned Him, saying, I neither know nor understand what you say. Then he went outside [the courtyard and was] into the vestibule. And a cock crowed.
Mark 14:68 AMPC
Conversations Around the Fire at the High Priest’s House Part 2

Good morning fellow disciples.

“But he denied it falsely and disowned Him.”

Peter was now aware of what they were doing to Jesus. Jesus had been condemned and they had started beating Him before they even left the high Priest’s house. His Lord and Master was now at the mercies of these people.

If he, Peter, admitted that he was with Jesus what would they do to him? So Peter did the safest thing to preserve his life: he denied and disowned Jesus.

“I neither know nor understand what you say.”

What a way to shut down somebody!

I don’t know what you’re saying.

I don’t understand what you’re saying.

How could You mistake me for someone who would be around that man? Do I really look like someone who is stupid enough to be with him?

“And a cock crowed.”

Jesus did say that Peter would deny Him three times before the cock crowed twice. Here we see Jesus’ prophecy beginning to be fulfilled but Peter did not even realize.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to be surrendered, submitted, and obedient to Father God the way that You were. I don’t want to be like Peter who denied You and disowned You.

In the present and in the future I don’t want to be like Peter, however, in the past I have denied You and disowned You many times.

Please forgive me Lord and wipe my slate clean. Make me righteous because of Your sacrifice, and help me to live for God the way that You did here on Earth. Amen.

  1. Many of us Disciples are like peter, so we need to live in constant submission to Jesus.
