Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, by telling the truth. Make your confession and tell me what you have done. Don’t hide it from me.”
Joshua 7:19 NLT
Good morning fellow disciples.
Confess: to unburden one’s sins or the state of one’s conscience to God or to a priest.
What is it that you are hiding?
How do you feel knowing that you have done something that has hurt others or that has dishonored God?
What do you do when your sin has come to light? Do you still try to hide it or deny it, or do you confess your sin?
If you are a child of God who is sinning or who has sinned, you can give glory to God / glorify God by confessing your sin.
You give glory to God, honor God, and show reverence to God by telling the truth. When you confess your sin, you show how righteous God is. When you confess your sin, you confirm that God is indeed Lord of your life. When you confess your sin, you turn from disrespecting God to showing Him that you respect Him.
In this passage we see Achan confessing his sin to Joshua. He unburdened his sin and the state of his conscience before Joshua and all of Israel. He knew that he was wrong and was willing to receive punishment for disobeying God.
Are you willing to unburden your sin and the state of your conscience before others regardless of what the consequences may be?
Are you willing to unburden your sin and the state of your conscience before others and to God so that you may receive forgiveness?
Prayer: Lord God, I have disobeyed Your commands. Others have clearly seen that I have sinned. I can’t hide it anymore; I will not hide it anymore! I confess my sin, Lord God. Judge me as You see fit. Amen.
