Completing the Mission- Barnabas’ Faithfulness and Mentoring Heart

June 8, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had completed their service, bringing with them John, whose other name was Mark.” – Acts 12:25 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 12:25 emphasizes Barnabas’ faithfulness in completing the task he was assigned. After successfully delivering the relief funds to Jerusalem, Barnabas and Saul return to Antioch. Notably, they bring with them John, also known as Mark, who was Barnabas’ cousin (Colossians 4:10). This suggests that Barnabas was not only faithful in completing his mission but also had a heart for mentoring and discipling others, bringing Mark along for further training and ministry experience.

As a disciple, you are called to be faithful in completing the tasks that God has assigned to you. Barnabas’ example reminds you that it’s not enough to simply start well; you must also finish well. Additionally, you are empowered to be a mentor and a disciple-maker, investing in the lives of others and helping them to grow in their faith. Remember, there are many who need help refocusing their attention on God.

This week, identify any unfinished tasks or commitments that you need to complete. Make a plan to follow through on these commitments and to be faithful in seeing them to completion. Also, consider if there is someone in your life who you can mentor or disciple. Offer your time, your wisdom, and your encouragement to help them grow in their faith and to fulfill their potential.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be faithful in completing the tasks that you have assigned to me. Give me the discipline to follow through on my commitments and to finish well. Also, give me a heart for mentoring and discipling others. Empower me to invest in their lives and to help them grow in their faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
