“Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip… “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree, before Philip called you.” – John 1:45-46, 48 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
John 1:45-46, 48 reveals Philip’s enthusiasm to share his newfound faith. He immediately seeks out Nathanael and declares, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” When Nathanael expresses skepticism, Philip doesn’t argue but simply invites him, “Come and see.” Later, Jesus demonstrates supernatural insight, revealing that He saw Nathanael under the fig tree even before Philip called him, underscoring the power of divine knowledge and the compelling invitation to experience Jesus personally.
As a disciple, you are called to share your faith with others, even when you encounter skepticism or doubt. Philip’s example reminds you that you don’t need to have all the answers or to win every argument. Sometimes the most effective approach is to simply invite people to “come and see” for themselves. Your personal testimony, your genuine love, and your willingness to share your experience can be a powerful witness to others.
This week, identify someone in your life who may be skeptical or resistant to Christianity. Pray for an opportunity to share your faith with them. Instead of trying to force your beliefs on them, simply invite them to “come and see” – to experience the love, grace, and truth of Jesus for themselves. You can achieve this by redirecting your focus to that individual and their needs.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a faithful witness to Your love, Your grace, and Your truth. Give me the courage to share my faith with those who are skeptical or resistant. Empower me to invite them to “come and see” – to experience the life-changing power of Jesus for themselves. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
