John 21:9-12 (NLT): “When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread. ‘Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,’ Jesus said. So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn. ‘Now come and have some breakfast!’ Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, ‘Who are you?’ They knew it was the Lord.”
Good morning fellow disciples.
This passage provides a beautiful picture of Jesus’ care and provision for His disciples. After a long night of fishing, the disciples find Jesus waiting for them with a meal prepared. He didn’t just provide spiritually but also tended to their physical needs. The invitation, “Come and have some breakfast,” is filled with love and grace. Jesus gently redirects their focus from their exhausting labor to rest and sustenance in His presence. His provision was abundant—both in the miraculous catch of fish and the meal He had already prepared for them.
Simon Peter, as seen in this passage, shows us the importance of obedience and active participation in Jesus’ work. When Jesus said, “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Peter immediately responded by dragging the net full of fish to shore. Even though it must have been heavy and tiring, Peter’s willingness to act demonstrates his love and devotion to the Lord. This moment also highlights Peter’s humility and restoration after denying Jesus three times earlier in the Gospel. Jesus was redirecting Peter’s focus from his past failure to his future role in the Kingdom.
Through this, we are reminded that Jesus calls us not to dwell on our mistakes but to step forward in obedience and faith. Like Simon Peter, we can be empowered to serve with a heart full of love and trust, knowing that Jesus provides for us abundantly in every way.
Today, reflect on how Jesus is inviting you to rest in His presence and trust in His provision. Are you carrying the heavy burdens of past failures, exhaustion, or self-reliance? Take a moment to redirect your focus to Jesus, who lovingly prepares what you need, both spiritually and physically. Like Peter, step forward in obedience, bringing your “fish”—your efforts, your work, your gifts—to the Lord, trusting that He will use them for His glory.
Take time to pause and recognize Jesus’ provision in your life. Write down three ways He has provided for you recently, whether spiritually, emotionally, or physically. Commit to redirecting your focus to His abundance rather than your own limitations.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your abundant provision and tender care. Just as You prepared breakfast for Your disciples, You are always ready to meet my needs. I redirect my focus to You, resting in Your presence and trusting in Your sufficiency. Like Peter, I respond with obedience and love, bringing all that I have to You. Forgive me for the times I’ve relied on my own strength or been weighed down by my failures. I commit to walking forward in faith, knowing that You are with me every step of the way. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
