“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
Good morning fellow disciples
As Christians, we all face temptation on a regular basis. Whether it’s the temptation to lie, cheat, gossip, lust, or give in to our selfish desires, the reality is that we live in a fallen world and are constantly bombarded by the schemes of the enemy. The devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).
But even in the midst of these constant temptations, we have the assurance that God is faithful. As James 1:13-15 reminds us, “Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am being tempted by God,’ for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”
God does not tempt us, but He does allow temptation to come our way in order to test and refine our faith. The good news is that He also provides a way of escape – He never allows us to be tempted beyond what we can bear, and He always provides the strength and resources we need to resist.
So how do we choose to resist temptation?
First, we need to be vigilant and aware of the schemes of the enemy. We must stay alert and on guard, not letting our guard down (1 Peter 5:8-9). Secondly, we must rely on God’s strength and power, not our own. When we are faced with temptation, we must turn to God in prayer, asking Him to give us the wisdom and strength to overcome.
Finally, we must be proactive in putting safeguards in place to protect ourselves. This may mean cutting off certain relationships, avoiding certain situations or places, or putting accountability measures in place. The key is to make a conscious choice to resist temptation, rather than giving in to our sinful desires.
As we choose to resist temptation, we will find that God is faithful to provide a way of escape. We will experience the freedom and joy that comes from walking in obedience to God’s commands. And we will become more like Christ, who was tempted in every way, yet was without sin (Hebrews 4:15).
So let us choose to resist temptation today, trusting in God’s strength and power to help us overcome. May we be vigilant, relying on God’s resources, and proactive in putting safeguards in place. And may we experience the abundant life that comes from walking in holiness and righteousness.
Prayer: Father God, I know that I can resist every temptation that I am faced with. I just have to choose to keep my focus on You and be obedient to Your Will! Help me! Help me Lord to overcome the enemy and his temptations! Amen.
Help us to lean on you Jesus.
