“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Faith is a foundational principle of the Christian life, yet it is often one of the most challenging aspects of our walk with God. In a world that values tangible evidence and immediate gratification, it can be difficult to trust in the unseen and have confidence in the promises of God.
However, Scripture makes it clear that “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). True faith goes beyond mere intellectual assent – it is a deep-rooted trust in God’s character and a willingness to act in accordance with His will, even when we cannot fully understand or see the outcome.
Throughout the Bible, we find countless examples of men and women who chose to exercise their faith, even in the face of great uncertainty and opposition. The “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11 celebrates the lives of those who “by faith” accomplished extraordinary things, from Abraham’s obedience to Noah’s ark-building to the conquering of kingdoms.
These examples remind us that faith is not passive, but active. As James 2:14-26 makes clear, “faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Genuine faith is evidenced by our willingness to step out in obedience, to take risks, and to trust God even when the path ahead is unclear.
Exercising faith in our daily lives may look different for each of us, but the underlying principle remains the same: choosing to believe God’s promises and act accordingly, regardless of our circumstances or feelings. It may mean stepping out in faith to share the gospel, to give sacrificially, or to make a difficult decision that aligns with God’s will.
When we choose to exercise faith, we open ourselves up to the transformative power of God’s work in our lives. We experience the joy and peace that come from trusting in His perfect plan, and we become witnesses to His faithfulness in the midst of our struggles and uncertainties.
So let us choose to exercise faith today. Let us fix our eyes on God. And may our lives be a testimony to the power of faith in action, inspiring others to trust in the One who is the author and perfecter of our faith.
Prayer: Father God, we confess that at times, our faith falters and we struggle to trust in Your perfect plan. Forgive us for the times when we have relied on our own understanding rather than stepping out in faith. Help us to have the courage and conviction to exercise our faith, even when the path ahead is unclear.
May our lives be a reflection of Your faithfulness, and may we be inspired by the examples of those who have gone before us, trusting in Your promises and obeying Your commands. We surrender our fears and doubts to You, and boldly step out in faith to do what You have directed us to do. Amen.
