They told Aaron: Make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what’s happened to him.
Acts 7:40 HCSB
Good morning fellow disciples.
The Israelites had just been delivered from captivity in Egypt. They had seen God, and experienced God taking them out of Egypt and providing miraculously for them. They had been guided by Moses who was now upon the mountain speaking to God on their behalf.
They knew where Moses was and what he was doing. Moses had left Aaron in charge. It was now over a month since Moses had gone up the mountain and the people were becoming anxious. They went to Aaron with a proposal to make them god’s who would lead them.
This is the same Aaron who God had appeared to and told him to go and meet his brother in the wilderness. This is the same Aaron who performed the miraculous deeds in Egypt. This is the same Aaron who spoke on behalf of God and Moses. What would Aaron choose to do?
Who would he submit to, would it be to God and to Moses, or to the people?
Submit is defined as “to defer to or consent to abide by the opinion or authority of another.”
Whose opinion or authority would Aaron abide by?
As a disciple of Christ there are many voices that you hear: the voice of God, fellow disciples, persons who are not disciples of Christ, and demonic voices.
Which voice are you submitting to?
Which voice do you defer to or consent to abide by? Which voice of opinion or which voice of authority do you submit to?
Examine yourself and see who you are submitted to. Do you need to make a change?
Prayer: Father God, Your voice makes the difference! Your voice brings life, brings peace, renews us, and makes us whole. I choose to submit to You. I choose Your voice, Lord. Amen
