Choices – Making the Desperate Choice

By Andrew Williams – September 23, 2021

Good morning fellow disciples.

Today we continue to look at some choices that were made in the Bible. To choose means: “to select freely and after consideration, to have a preference for, or to take an alternative”. The question that we always have to answer is this, ” When I am faced with a choice, what will I choose to do?”

A woman suffering from bleeding for 12 years, who had spent all she had on doctors yet could not be healed by any, approached from behind and touched the tassel of His robe. Instantly her bleeding stopped. When the woman saw that she was discovered, she came trembling and fell down before Him. In the presence of all the people, she declared the reason she had touched Him and how she was instantly cured. “Daughter,” He said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
Luke 8:43‭-‬44‭, ‬47‭-‬48 HCSB

Can you imagine being in a position where you have been oppressed for over a decade, and you have sought help from everyone or everywhere that you can think of but no one was able to help you? You are an outcast and classified as unclean and you’re not allowed to go out in certain social circumstances. You now hear that there is someone who can help you, but to get to him you have to break all the social rules. What do you do?

This is the situation that the woman in the passage was faced with. She was now faced with making a desperate choice: would she follow the rules of society or would she break them in an attempt to see this man who could help her? We note that even though she went to see Jesus she did not ask Him to do anything for her. She was desperate enough to believe that if she only touched the Hem of His garment she would be healed!

What situation are you facing today that you need to be desperate in your approach to God? For example, are you in a church and that is so religious that you have yet to experience the infilling of the Holy Spirit? Are you tired of being bound to sin even though you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior? Are you in need of healing or, are you in need of being set free from oppression?

Why not be desperate and seek God right where You are, in a way that shows that your faith is greater than your situation? Notice what Jesus said to the woman: “Daughter,” He said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” Luke 8:48 HCSB

Get desperate and go to God in faith! His power to save, heal, and deliver you will respond to your desperate faith!

Prayer: Father God I am desperate! I need You to help me in my situation! I come to You God in faith that You will save me, heal me, and deliver me! I will not let anything stop me from coming to You, because You are the only one, the only one who can help me. I put all my faith in my trust in You right now, and I know that You will honor my desperate choice, amen.
