Choices – Hide and Seek

By Andrew Williams – September 6, 2021

Good morning fellow disciples.

Today we continue to look at some choices that were made in the Bible. To choose means: “to select freely and after consideration, to have a preference for, or to take an alternative”. The question that we always have to answer is this, ” When I am faced with a choice, what will I choose to do?”

Yesterday we saw that mankind was faced with the choice to obeying or to disobey God. Today we see another choice that was made. Let us read what happened after the serpent spoke to the woman.

Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves. Genesis 3:6‭-‬7 HCSB

So after disobeying God they found out that they were naked and chose to cover up themselves. As children, we would go without clothes and not be ashamed. It wasn’t until we were told by others that we should cover up in certain circumstances that we, sometimes reluctantly, decided to do so. Here Adam and Eve prove the point that we tend to hide things when we feel shame. God saw them without clothes all the time, but only when they sinned did they feel as if they had to hide the nakedness that they now recognized.

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid themselves from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you? ” And he said, “I heard You in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.” Genesis 3:8‭-‬10 HCSB

So they hid while God was seeking them. Remember our question: “When I am faced with a choice, what will I choose to do?” The choice that mankind struggled with at that moment was: “now that I have sinned, should I face God or hide from God?” Isn’t this the same choice we struggle with today?

When we sin and we become aware of it we tend to have a lot of feelings and emotions that would push us to hide from God and godly persons. Hiding from God does not solve our problem, it just keeps us away from God. Going to God and confessing our sins leads to forgiveness, redemption, and renewal of our fellowship with God. God seeks us out when we are in right standing with Him and when we are not. It’s our choice to hide from Him or to go to Him? What will you choose to do now?!

Prayer: Father God, I have sinned against You. I’m ashamed to face You and fearful to come to You. I know You have all right to discipline and punish me, but I choose to come to You and confess my sins. I don’t want to hide what I have done and I definitely do not want to hide from You.

Please forgive me for not living the way You taught and commanded me. I repent of my sin. Please restore our fellowship with each other I pray, amen.
